Tags for Hidden Products

It seems that collection.tags doesn’t differentiate between hidden and non-hidden products. Consequently, if you have a hidden product with a unique tag, the list of tags will still include that tag.

For example:
1. Make a collection, TestCollection
2. Make a product, Widget1 with tag “foo” and add it to the collection
3. Make a product, Widget2 with tag “bar” and add it to the collection
4. Mark Widget2 as hidden

When you navigate to TestCollection on your site, you’ll find that the tags listed are “foo” and “bar”, although only Widget1 appears. (Activating the “bar” tag will just lead you to a “No products found in this collection.” message.)

I’m not sure if this is the intended behavior, but if a customer cannot see a particular product, it seems like they also shouldn’t be able to see its tag.

I’m a little surprised that no one responded to this. Am I the only person who has noticed/been annoyed by this? It’s not like it’s a huge problem, but it is an inconvenience to have to remove a tag for multiple products in addition to hiding them (and then having to add the tag(s) back upon making them visible again).

Heya,

Not sure why anyone would respond to this… except to say that you revealed a logical error in Shopify, and obviously, they should acknowledge the problem, and add it to the TODO list as something to fix.

Even though you make a clear case demonstrating the problem, I am sure the priority assigned to this issue is much lower than that of some other show-stoppers.

It would be nice if there was a publicly browsable issue tracker, although those are almost exclusively limited to Open Source projects, of which this is not one.

Hopefully one day the change log will present to you a line item showing this issue resolved!
