I want to set up a giveaway
We just launched our site; http://www.hazelandharlow.com in August, and have been enjoying some really great response. Recently I started offering discount codes to blogs and publications via our PR agency, but now we'd like to offer a giveaway to the readers of a magazine and would like to host it within our Shopify site - can someone direct me to how/where to do this?

It's not possible to offer a discount (in your case that would be 100% off discount) only on certain items in Shopify out of the box.
To provide special deals on special items, you need... special coding.
I am working on this for a client of mine now. Here is what she needs: %50-off discount on only 1 particular item for a limited time -- with a special discount code. That product is never the same, it changes from one promotion to the next. I am able to pull this off but it takes a bit of coding.
If you want a free solution, you could simply create a free product in your store, make sure it's part of no collection, you can even hide it from /collections/all, and give the URL to that product page to the special clients who read Magazine X.
Or you can issue a 100% discount code to all clients when their cart's total is inferior to $X dollars.
But that's running into trouble if you ask me.

Thanks for all the info - I've successfully created multiple promotions and % off codes within Shopify so I'd hoped doing a giveaway would be as simple :( So to someone who really doesn't understand much html, I guess I can "delete" one of the regular items within hazel & harlow and use that item as the giveaway item for the magazine - how do I keep other site shoppers from seeing this particular giveaway?
