It seems the current discount coupon system allows the store owner to specify a minimum order size for the coupon to apply. Any way it would be possible to make that in reverse as an option? Either that or a way to make discount codes only applicable to certain products?

Our situation is this: We're looking to give our resellers a discount code that allows them to buy licenses of our software applications at a discounted price and then turn around and sell them to their customers for full price. The only catch is this discount should only apply for the individual licenses and NOT to the our subscription product line that gives access to everything. Wondering how we could potentially implement this within the constraints of the existing shopify system.

TIA

I second that request, need a coupon system that can be applied to specific products. Or is there any other way to achieve this result with existent Shopify features? Thanks in advance!

The way I would go about this is to apply a price to discounted items that’d be inferior to their compare_at_price price. Most themes show both prices: the actual price, and the ‘compare at’ price. Then I would add these discounted products to a special collection and add a tag to them, say ‘discounted’.
I would use a special image to overlay on top of the product featured image on collection pages, as well as a special image to show on the product page, all of this based on Liquid logic (ie: reading the tags). The goal: show off the product as discounted. For a limited time.

Of course, no one then needs to enter a coupon code to get the special discount. That’s barely a workaround. More like a different approach.

New member here. I would really like the option of being able to offer coupons to specific products. More importantly, I’d like to be able to offer free shipping on specific products.

i’ve a query much the same as jamison…i’m looking at how to set a discount code of a percentage discount on p&p when a customer purchases a set amount in value.
for example
10% discount on p&p on purchases over £10.
20% discount on p&p on purchases over £20.

etc etc.

also one query i have on a discount code i currently have for ex customers -10% off your next purchase- is does the final sum includes p&p before it applies the discount,or after?

The restrictions on discount codes have been bothering me more and more. Discount codes and promotions are essential for on-line sales, and yet Shopify only allows GLOBAL $ or % discounts. I sell men’s clothing and accessories, and would like to be able to offer discounts like these:

20% off socks
Buy one tie get a second half off

Currently, if I want to discount a whole product category, I need to go in an manually change each individual item, which is unreasonable in some cases. Or I do a percentage discount and risk losing money if a customer buys an item where there is a thin margin.

I just want to second this request. The lack of flexibility in the discounts feature is really holding us back and makes it difficult to compete on a promotional level.

I’ll “third” that!
The aperant inabilty to offer “trade pricing” on an item by item basis is bugging the heck out of me.

We deal with both the public and B2B sales (as do a lot of companys) and the lack of ability to provide a second tier of pricing for registered trade users is proberly going to meen our withdrawl from shopify before we even open the doors.

To me this si an esential feature of online sales and is an area in which shopify is grossly lacking. Why?

The pther issue is free shipping on certain items but that’s another story . . .

I was led to belive that shopify was a solution suitable (after appropiate modds) for all from the smallest enterprise to a large setup with thousands of product lines but with features that are such a necessory part of selling on line (and certainly if B2B sales are comtemplated along side retail) missing I am not so shure this is in fact the case.

Regards, Col.

Carolines method is the best. It applies the methods in Getting Real by 37 Signals.

Offer less features and let the use come up with creative solutions.

Using coupon codes can be great for email marketing at times, though it is troublesome with conversions. Some customers may not use the codes right away, forget them or lose a link.

Let every visitor see you are discounting the products like Caroline mentioned and convert every site visitor as opposed to only those that receive a special coupon.

Yes this can be troublesome for many situations, but Shopify has less for a reason. Just let it be…

We also need a way to provide discounts for different products on our eshop, reason being is that we negotiate different prices / discounts for individual customers based upon the size of the order etc. We don’t want these customers to get the same discount on all our products only the ones that we have negotiated, therefore the ability to offer discount codes for individual customers for individual products is extremely important to us and reason for us to look to alternative suppliers.

Are the shopify crew reading this thread?
I find the ability to specify discount codes for monthly sales on particular products of utmost importance. It’s a real hassel to do all this manually and quite simply, seems unsophisticated to me.
I would be happy as as clam if they make it happen…
i “fourth” this request!!

From a Discount Codes site point of view (one of my codes sites is www.latestdiscountvouchers.co.uk ), the more codes the better. The more we receive, the easier it is to get discount messages across to our users.

However, I do find that if there are too many discount codes at the product level for a particular website (15+?) my users may not be able to view the discount code as clearly as they should be able to. This is a general observation, rather than one specific to the website above.

If I were a Shopify user, I would fully expect that the discount functionality is flexible enough to incorporate product level discounts so hope that this proves to be the case in the future.

@ramidonya

Regarding product level discounts...

This is possible with Shopify but requires a little ingenuity.

I have implemented promo code functionality for a client, and the code can be redeemed only for 1 product.

If you need help with this, I can be reached through the email address which is in my signature.
