Hey Guys, Are there any workarounds you would recommend for this? Thanks in advance, |

We were considering to add a javascript to make this happen. We have the current exchange curses in our database so it would be possible to export this as a JS for everyone to include and then you could show a dropdown at the bottom of your store with the different currencies. Once another currency is selected it would enumerate all divs of class=”money” or soemthing similar and calculate the selected value from it ( stating that it is an approximation of course ). If anyone is up for some javascripting let me know! I’ll happily support the motion :) Real multi currency shops are almost impossible because at one point money has to be converted and the third party doing so will charge an unpredictable fee. Even amazon will always sell you items in USD on amazon.com and CAD on amazon.ca. ---

Great thanks for the response. I would certainly use this if somebody created it. Cheers,

@tobi What’s the status of this one? And what about multiple languages? Thanks!

Nothing on this front is under active development at this time. We are planning additions for multiple language stores though. ---

Hey Tobi, I would love to see this feature in a version of Shopify. I am all for a bit of Javascripting, and would be happy to work out the heavy lifting if you could give me access to the other currency’s in the DB. Right now we have our US store with Shopify, but a separate international store with another shopping cart. I would love to merge this sites, and a little currency support would help this happen.

As a reference, here is how another shopping cart handles the setup. Since Shopify has the currency exchange built into the system, it would be nice to have the following admin options: Base Currency – Already in Shopify All transactions on Shopify happen in the Base Currency, but you can display the conversion rates to help customers make informed buying choices. I have a few stores with Shopify, and the abandoned cart feature is incredible. After contacting several international customers with abandoned carts, they told me that uncertainty about the currency exchange and price in local currency has forced them to abandon their order. Since a fantastic aspect of e-commerce is the ability to sell internationally, it would be great to add some international support. — Last edited 10:00PM, Feb 09, 2008 |

Chad, Great ideas. Tobi and I were discussing a system something like that recently. Seems like something that will probably get implemented at some point, but I couldn’t say when.

Hi everyone, I just signed up for an account and need some help. 1. I need to charge Canadians in Canadian Dollars and Americans in American Dollars. I have a merchant account with both Currencies with PsiGate 2. I need two different prices for Canadians and Americans. (not a currency conversion) For example a snowboard will sell to a Canadian customer for 500 Dollars CAD and to a US customer for 400 USD. Is is possible to set this up so that the shop can recognize an IP address and display the appropriate currency and pricing? 3. I would need to run both sides of the shop with one inventory system. Is this possible to set up or this too much customization? thanks in advance for any help on this Walter

I am desperate for this feature, but it isn’t available. Your best bet is to setup two shops and try to sync inventory manually (goodluck!), or take advantage of the recent currency script Another option is to wait until the API becomes available and you may be able to more easily cook up your own solution.

You should consider the problem is not only the exchange rate of currencies. Being based in Europe we actually can’t use the same price for our US customers. We have two different pricelists with different markups. We have to do this to represent our brand anyways overseas, and it’s a policy lots of brands apply. Having a value field for every currency in use in the store would be completely different.
