Hi,
I have noticed that when I am trying to access my site, www.gymfunky.com.au, from a vodafone mobile broadband connection my site never seems to load. speedtest.net rates my connection as 613kb/s download, which is poor, but I would have thought it still should load…

Is there someway that while I am connected via this, that I can run a test to see if I can access the CDN’s/ servers or something like that?

All suggestions appreciated.

Tuesday 11:30 PM EST happened to be the lowest sales period of the week for Shopify. Don’t forget that we have many customers in europe and australia that also factor into this. There simply isn’t a good time for everyone and we have to pick one.

I hope it won’t cause you any lost (delayed?) sales.

If you want to turn this into a series of personal attacks feel free.

I use the Vogue theme simply because I do not feel the need for a custom design. 99.9% of my customers will never have seen the design before, and the few that do, won’t connect it with anything previously. Same with the logo. The small percentage of people who notice the logo doesn’t blend perfectly most likely won’t have their shopping experience altered.

Regardless of how my site looks, I feel that it is the obligation of Jaded Pixel to offer as best an uptime percentage as they can and a 1 hour planned downtime during a peak hour does not seem logical to me.

Is this your site? http://www.buzzgrounds.com/

You are a funny man, Steve. You complain about 1-2 hours of downtime in 2-3 months. I thought that surely you are the type of seller who can afford to host his own store. Looks like it may not be the case: you use the Vogue theme as is, with an uploaded png logo that does not blend with the background. Looks like you can’t afford to hire a designer for your site. So I apologize for getting the wrong impression.

An online storefront being down for 2 hours in 2-3 months is not a good record to have.

11:30pm may not be a peak time for the overall system, but it is for my store. Traffic increases at night. I run many PPC and advertising campaigns and an hour of downtime can cost me almost $50 in wasted advertising. It isn’t that easy to pause all of the campaigns for an hour.

I also don’t understand the need to take the storefront down to do the upgrades, it is absolutely possible to do so without any downtime.

I appreciate them giving us advanced notice, but it could be a little more in depth than “your site will be down for an hour”

Calm down, Steve. This is a rare occurence. For the 2-3 months I have been using Shopify, this is the second time.

Shopify stores are open to customers all around the world.

Jaded Pixel has mentioned before that they pick a time based on traffic, so you can rest assured that 11:30pm EST is probably a low-traffic time, if not the lowest.

The message does not state that there’ll be downtime at “a peak ordering time”. What it says is: “Shopify will be unavailable on Thursday Sep 25 11:30PM EDT for approximately 1 hour. We will perform routine maintenance and also deploy some new features. For more information please watch the Shopify blog.”

Would you prefer to NOT get a notice…?

Why is it scheduled for 11:30pm EST then? That is still a time when many visitors will be trying to access the site. Why not 3am EST? Why has the blog not been updated with details? I don’t really like the idea of getting a notice that says “your site will be down for 1 hour during a peak ordering time” and no further explanation. How often is downtime like this planned?
