Customer accounts - when?

I know I know, it's been asked before - but Dad, are we nearly there yet?

I saw my friend's website she created today using Magento....and I saw all the customer features, an account, a wish list.... and I got twitchy fingers..... There are SO many things that I believe that Shopify have got right, but when is this fab feature (and one that I expect most people expect to find on online shops nowadays) going to be included?

I restocked my supplies today with 5 different suppliers of mine, and on each one I logged in with my account details....

ah...what happened then? i'm almost 100% sure i saw it on my stores before..just checked and it's not there anymore. that blows :(

What gives Shopify team? This feature was mentioned.

I now have to move two stores over to Magento Go based on this.

Look at this from the customer point of view

1. entering credentials everytime they want to purchase

2. No way to log into an account and check order etc.

What is going on I am sure your customers would like some feedback?

Totally unacceptable I had started build the site in Shopify because it handles customers accounts according to your own content.

Optional customer accounts let customers register with your store using an email address and password. Accounts enable your customers to keep track of their purchase history and manage stored addresses.

Hi 76, Chulee, rj64, Paul...

Customer accounts was released a few weeks ago. Soon after the release, and before we hit the Publish button for our big announcement, we discovered a few bugs and rolled it back. When it was rolled back, some shops for which Customer Accounts was enabled as beta feature lost their activation. The only way to activate Customer accounts beta again is to do it on a per shop basis. If anyone needs it enabled again in their shop please email support@shopify.com. We apologize for the inconvenience!

So I asked and was told that this feature is on the way why a staff member has not responded to this I have no idea.

The functionality is in Beta and will be rolled out soon.

I would recommend contacting support.

However Shopify should refrain from advertising this as a feature on this page:

Any ETA on an official release? I'm hesitant to start using this feature and provide it to customers if all the wrinkles haven't yet been ironed out... It will only dissapoint the customers and cause customer service issues...

I really think a better communication channel for upcoming releases is needed... If only to make transparent what features are being worked on at any time and when they are likely to be released... Excuse me if this is already out there and I haven't found it yet...
