I’m trying to create a collection with more than one condition, such as this: A collection called Green Crazy Hats with a condition for Product Title contains Crazy, and another condition for Product Title contains Green. The collection comes up empty.

I believe it comes up empty because Shopify is setting an “And” condition, and what I really want is an “Or” condition.

Am I missing something on the collections admin page? Thanks in advance for any help.

I haven’t been able to do this either. I think it is currently not possible. This would be a very useful feature.

I’ve just unsuccessfully tried it too.

Tobi – the wiki says this:

Let me explain. Shopify has a Smart Collection? system. This Smart Collections? system is very simple.
Let’s say you have a “category

I’ve got a sort of and/or system working by using tags (apologies if this is really obvious, I’m way less experienced with shopify than most people around here).

For your purposes you may need to define a collection with everyhing in it (or everything of one type, say ‘clothing’ in it)

The collection Clothing might contain items tagged green, crazy and hats. Some could be green hats, some might be crazy hats and so on.

You can set a navigation item that targets the collection ‘clothing’ then filters by tags green%20crazy%20hats

Until a little while ago you could just have put a space in between the tags, but recently you’ve needed to encode the space character as %20 so it doesn’t get turned into a ’+’

Clicking this link will return items with one OR all of the tags (so green hats, crazy trousers, green trousers etc)

You might then set up a tag menu on the page that allows the user to filter by just one of the returned tags (showing only green clothing, crazy clothing or whatever).

Hope that makes sense
Mike

That sounds pretty good, but what I’m working on these days is trying to set up a system of related products – i.e. things which are different – so don’t have the same tags, but which I think somehow belong together.

For example, on the crazy green hat product page, I’d like to show:

“With this hat, you definitely also need:”

these wild orange/pink striped socks

these blue polka-dot trousers

this fake nose

and of course also our special self-propelled stilts

And my other need is exactly the contrary – to list an item which is the same, but just a different colour. For example, I also want to be able to say simply:

“You might also like this very self-same non-waterproof umbrella in blue” – and I’m not listing the blue umbrella as a variant of the same one in red, because I want to be able to tag the blue umbrella as “blue” so that people can look at everything I sell that’s blue, and I can’t do that if it’s a variant.

So I want to be able to make groups of products, either automatically or manually, which aren’t part of the main collections,& am trying to find a way to do that.

So, any chance we will be able to do an or within a Collection selection?? I have a smart collection that is working great, except we want to add one item to it, that requires an OR… I’d even take a smart collection that can be built using the tags would be useful… I’m can’t quite see why it’s such an issue given that this is all database driven…..

The behaviour of tags was fixed after the earlier posts to this thread were made.

Last time I heard from Tobi tags were AND only, so contrary to what’s said above, a link to a collection filtered by tags

collections/clothing/hats+green
or
collections/clothing/hats%20green

will return the same thing, ie clothing tagged with both ‘hats’ and ‘green’.

Though at the time I think they were planning an overhaul at some point.

And I for one would love an ‘or’ method for collections
M
