Firstly congratulations on a really great product.
We currently use SECpay as our payment provider (gateway), is there any possibility of adding them as an option.

They have a very simple API, you simply post the details (amount, transaction_id, merchant_id and callback_url) to their secure server, they take the payment and return the user to the given url.

We have used SECpay for nearly two years, they are based in the UK, and are helpful.

Or as an alternative to only supporting a number of gateways why not have a generic system where you can map your fields (amount etc.) to the field names required by any gateway...

Many thanks, Ann.

Do they have an option to clear credit cards remotely from your page as well or do you have to send off your user to the foreign page like paypal does it?

In case there is a full integration possibility all thats needed is adding support to ActiveMerchant and support will become available in shopify automatically.

Hi Tobi

No, you have to go on to their server to enter creditcard details…

Would that be compatible with ActiveMerchant?

Thanks, Ann.

I’m from the UK and also need an alternative to the current payment gateways that are supported.

SECpay seems okay but £10 a month and 39p per transaction is quite a lot!

Has the Shopify team considered implementing support for http://www.NoChex.com ?

It’s all relative.

SECpay charge £10/m + 39p/transaction for accounts with fewer than 60 transactions per month (after which it gets pretty pricey) – SECpay rates

NoChex charge 2.9% + 20p/transaction, with rates getting more competitive as you make more transactions – NoChex rates

Another UK based PG is ProtX, with rates starting at £20/m (2000 transaction limit per month, 10p each after limit). Based on appearances, ProtX seem the most professional for the UK.

Another option is Chronopay, based in Holland and serving the whole of the EU. I suggested in another thread that they might be the best option for the jP guys to introduce into Shopify. From an ‘economies of scale’ perspective, adding a PG that is available to all EU businesses would give the greatest return for the least effort. Chronopay’s rates start at 2.69% + €0.40.

I hope the jP guys don’t mind me posting this mini-review here. I just wanted to help collect the information together to help the devs make their decisions. I’d also like to point out that I’m not affiliated with any of the above companies.

Quite the oposite. This is great information and will definitely point us in the right direction. We are planning to work on more gateways in the coming weeks.

Whats your opinion on worldpay by the way? I think they work like paypal in the sense that you have to send your customers off to a foreign page to clear…

My first webhosts used Worldpay, about five years ago. As I recall, I needed to leave my host’s servers and go to worldpay.com to complete the transaction, similar to the way paypal does it. I’m not sure if this is the only option – some PGs offer both a hosted system and an integrated system. Worldpay’s website is not the most intuitive when it comes to information design.

I’m working with a close friend on a wintersports e-shop to suppliment a bricks-and-mortar store. It’s almost a year since we started on this, and it has basically ground to a halt because of the difficulty in finding a viable solution, with software, hosting, SSL, gateways and merchant accounts all ramping the cost right up.

I can’t wait for Shopify to launch so we can finally get it moving. The only things stopping us from committing right now are the DNS features and a PG that we can use, both of which I know are in development already.

Tobi,

WorldPay has a very well documented API. They’re really expensive though ( £250 + per year and 4.5% per transaction ) ... they have a bunch of options, their Junior package is just an HTML post to bring you to foreign servers, but I know they have a Java / COM object thing too…

The big XML provider in Ireland is RealExpayments.com … I’ve got a Ruby/Rails interface to their gateway using XML. I might take a look and see if I can’t get it going in ActiveMerchant.

Peace,

Paulo: Adding or paying someone to add a gateway to Active Merchant is the surefire way of getting payment processing support into shopify regardless of the popularity of the gateway.

Please let me know how it goes and if I can assist in the implementation.

Worldpay doesn’t seem to be an option for true integration it seems. In any case paypal looks to be a much better solution.

Payment processing market makes me sad…
