Christina Miss Manners

Goodbye This post is outdated

Yes. It's been a pleasure; most of the time. I have recently been going to "ridiculous lengths":http://forums.shopify.com/categories/1/posts/20790 to try to get some of *my* questions answered - or even acknowledged - , but to no avail. Many of my requests are simply disregarded in this fashion, as if I were a perfect stranger here. It seems I have let things become far more non-reciprocal than my comfort level tolerates. Alarm bells are ringing in my system. Crabbiness lurks. And therefore, before I become "perfectly strange":http://forums.shopify.com/categories/5/posts/21120#comment-21123, I bid you all much success with your businesses, happy coding, happy holidays and so on. Baci tutti, as my sister-in-law says. I'm moving on to other things.

You, more than everyone else here combined, are responsible for properly documenting Liquid and showing designers how to whip templates so that these do as they wish, to extents, probably, that the maker of Liquid has not fancied. The sum of your cleverness and knowledge is all around here in the forums. Maybe some day, someone will take all of your contributions and try and add them properly to the Wiki. Tall order. Maybe it would have been good for you if you had been at least paid for all that daily support, or if you had had a book contract on the side, like ‘Theming Shopify’.

You’re a wonderful person, Christina. One of the brightest and wisest persons I have met online.

I have let things become far more non-reciprocal than my comfort level tolerates.

I’d listen to all these alarm bells, and trust them ‘cause they usually tell the truth.

I found it very necessary to pay tribute to Christina for her selfless service and contributions to this forum, I’m saddened that you have decided to leave us but your contributions won’t, these are legacies that has been edged in the sand of time of Shopify for its present and future members to tap from.
I shared your concern but unfortunately we are helpless.
Once again, THANK YOU.
Best wishes.

I think that Christina’s presence on this forum has been an immense asset to many, many Shopify owners/designers. You have no idea how many times I’ve used exact snippets of her liquid code from the search archives. I think rather that reflect on what she has done and part ways, I really think people should pay attention to what she is saying.

Based on her initial post, it seems that she is frustrated that she isn’t getting any response from JP on certain issues while at the same time giving PLENTY of response helping others on this forum.

I feel the same way and have had many issues completely ignored in these forums. Many other companies have a full-time staff member browse their forums as a primary responsibility, so even if an issue can’t be resolved at least a response can be given. I think we at least deserve that.

Not to say that JP hasn’t been helpful in some cases, and I know there is a full time support staff via email/live chat, but in the future there really should be a push to at least acknowledge all forum posts. This benefits not only individual customers but the whole Shopify community in general. (You can’t search to see solutions provided in private support tickets.) At the end of the day this all comes back to JP, because helping us is ultimately in your best interest.

If Christina, of all people, is frustrated with response given on certain issues, imagine how people with limited HTML/CSS and no liquid programming knowledge feel. (And based on Shopify’s value proposition of being a “easy to use” e-commerce system surely you have a large proportion of these type of customers)

Don’t get me wrong. I think Shopify is great and love the platform. But if you’re just going to sit back and let the probably most important member of our user community just leave and not even try to make amends to keep her here, I think you really doing injustice to her and really hurting the quality and resources available to ALL Shopify customers.

Just my two cents…

BTW Christina, THANK YOU, for all the help you have given.

It does not surprise me this Christina's post.

Maybe the next ones to leave will be us, hosting:

drpet.es

locosmetic.com

alertwine.com

clickjamon.com

and we've been asking, asking, asking for: multiple language support, support for implementing merchant-gateway in Spain, and our own checkout url.

Anyway, maybe now, we're too small, maybe, when we're a bit bigger, it's going to be too late for shopify. :-(

meanwhile, I have to admit Caroline job is FANTASTIC!
