How to get items listed in Google Products / Shoppingby moneymark - Member - 12:56PM, May 07, 2008 |

Hi there, I was wondering if anyone were able to help me at all??? I have desperately been trying for ages to get my items to show up in the Google Products / Google Shopping Results i.e the 3 results that sit at the top of searches and have attached an example of what I mean… And here is a link to the page I want to show up in – http://www.google.com/products I have managed to get my Products listed in Google Base with no problems using Basesync. However Google Base is different to the results shown with the Google Shopping / Google Products which this is what I am after… Is there something I am missing or should be doing??? Has anyone had the same problem and managed to work it out? Any advice would be greatly appreciated… Thanks for your time. Last edited 01:19PM, May 07, 2008 |

Hi Mark Hope business is good. To achieve this you will need to add your products to the UK version of Google base at base.google.co.uk Basesync only seems to add them to the US version. I used the tool provided by danW on this post http://forums.shopify.com/categories/1/posts/9936#comment-13579 when I did it previously, but I don’t think that it works anymore. @Jared – is it possible to have a country option within basesync, so that us insular UK folk can target our own countrymen?

Funny you mention that Mike, we actually just implemented an update yesterday that adds them to the appropriate location. Currently Base only supports US (USD), UK (EUR), and Germany (EUR). We’ve already been using a shops currency (if it’s supported), otherwise we convert to USD. With that said, we will actually be adding another option today that allows users to pick which location they’d like to be injected into. If somebody is located outside of these areas we simply convert their shops currency to the desired locations currency. Anyhow, that will be coming really soon! ---

Thanks for your responses Mike and Jared. However the problem is not that they don’t show up in Google Base, that’s fine and I can see them… The problem is that they are not included in ‘Google Product Search’ which is what I am after. Having dug a bit deeper I have found these instructions detailing how to post a product in Google Base for inclusion in Google Product Search – http://base.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=37736 It says that I have to submit a data feed of all the products in my store and format the feed as a tab-delimited or XML - is this something I can download or do I need to create it myself manually inputing the info into an excel doc? The other problem is that my own Google Base account within my Google Account says my website URL is already used by another Google Base account – is this because of the Basesync account???

Mark, that support article you reference is what basesync does. We take your products and inject them to Google Base in XML format. We automatically repeat this process everyday, which is the biggest advantage of basesync – you only update your Shopify products and we update Base automatically. It looks like your basesync account is really new, so you might give Google a few days to list your items. Google is very slow in updating. Right, Google only allows you to use a domain with one Base account. You have chosen to use basesync’s multi-site Base account. If you’d rather manually manage Base, then you can simply delete your basesync account. However, you will then loose all automation, which means you’ll have to manually get products out of Shopify, manually insert them to Base, update Base anytime you make changes, and you have to manually update Base at least once a month. ---

OK many thanks, so basically although all my items show up in Google Base, I’ll need to give it a few days for them to show up in Google Products / Shopping results?
Yeah, give it a few days and lets see what happens. We’ll get this figured out one way or another. =) ---

I just did a spot-check in Google Products of several basesync accounts and they are there, so I’m sure yours will eventually arrive. ---

Hey Jared, Only 3 of the 15 products on my site appear to have made it into Google Base; and idea why this might be?
Looks like all 15 are there to me… ---

So I can see all my Products in Google Base all fine – http://www.google.com/base/s2?hl=en&;gl=GB&view=List&authorid=3869854 Which have been uploaded care of Basesync, however there is still no sign of them if I search Google Shopping / Products, only my competitors, see here – http://www.google.co.uk/products?q=keep+calm+and+carry+on&;ie=UTF-8&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&um=1 Does anyone have any ideas at all please??? Thanks

You have to choose your item type as “Products” before uploading your products to the google feed. Please read this http://base.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&;answer=45915.

@topgun – We set that through basesync. People who use our service don’t even setup a separate Google Base account. ---

Hi Jared, It looks like ‘Product’ was not selected when Synctobase uploaded our products. As there a way to correct this please?
Actually it is selected and your products are successfully be updated on a daily basis. See attached screenshot. Also, this link confirms all your products are in Base. ---

Hi I’m not sure if I am having the same issue here. My products are all listed in Google Base (I think – there have been some problems), but when I search in Google shopping they are not listed. Is this the same thing that is being discussed here or am I totally off the point?? Any help would be appreciated! www.miabambina.co.uk

Hello there I have checked my referrers in Analytics and as far as I can see have never had a referral from Base/Products. Basesync seems to work great (and I was pleased to see that it now goes into the UK) but I cannot find anything in Google Products/Shopping ever (and neither as far as my Analytics show has anyone else). Becks and others do not therefore seem to be alone. Is there something else we should be turning on or doing? Jonathan ---

I’m still having exactly the same problem as the folks above and when I started this thread… Yes Basesync works as far as listing products in Google Base, but does not list anything in Google Shopping or Products – which is what I am after. I have never sold anything via Base, in order to get any sales you really need to be in the Google Shopping results. Will this ever be possible at all with Synctobase???
Heya folks! Google Base is what is used to list products in Google Products. From: “Based on the relevance of your items, your items will be included on Google. Products for sale will be included in Google Product Search” We automatically list everything as a Product, so all of your items should be showing up in Google Products. Also, make sure you’re searching the correct Google Products feed for your region (US, UK, DE) as items are not cross listed at this time. However, I’ve seen several forum posts where other users of Google Base have had issues getting their products to show up in the searches. Here’s some requirements from the Google crew: As for Google Shopping, I think that has to do with tying your eBay or Google Checkout store with Base.
So just to clarify what you are saying, Basesync is unable to list products in Google Shopping???
Michael – it should not have anything to do with eBay or Google Checkout, Base should be enough. Perhaps shopping links only appear where there is a competitor for your products? Just an idea. I wonder what we are all doing wrong? Jonathan ---

I’ve been using http://www.synctobase.com/ for a while and it works great for me. Go to Google shopping and look for “Koi Scrabble Pendant” and up it comes. I also submit my site map to Google. If you look for just “Scrabble Pendant” you can see many more than just mine. It does take time for Google to index things and if you sell the same widget millions of other folks sell, you may never find you product in Google depending on your traffic. Thanks. ---

Jonathan— Yeah, that was our understanding as well, but recently a few new options regarding “connecting your eBay, Google, or Amazon storefronts to Base” have been popping up, so I wasn’t sure if I was missing something. Julene— You’re absolutely right in that it seems to take Google forever to process and list your items. Even if the link from your synctobase.com account shows all your imported items, that doesn’t mean that they’re actually indexed and searchable in Google Products. With computers, we’ve all grown accustomed to things being near instantaneous, and to have anything take a week or more to show up seems crazy…until you remember that Google’s likely processing millions of items a day! BTW— We’re planning on expanding our synctobase services soon, including allowing you to list your items in all three available feeds (though automatically translating from Germany to English and vice versa may not work very well) as well as a few more “premium” options, so stay tuned!
