Certificate Invalid with my own sub domain - Help!

Hi all.

Help.

I switched over to use my own domain name yesterday, which is all very well and good. Created the new CNAME at the hosting company, plugged it into shopify and bingo.

HOWEVER I now get this little security message in ALL MY BROWSERS which says that the certificate can’t be verified. When I ask it for details it says “Host name mismatch.” Image attached. What to do about this?!

I’d like to launch soon and can’t afford it looking like a security breach to my customers.

Do I have to purchase an SSL from my hosting company or will that not help?

My domain is a sub domain – shop.mydomain.com

I’d really appreciate it if somebody could help me.

Thank you!

Hi Jena,

I just visited the site that I believe you are talking about and did not see that error in any browser. Are you still getting the error?

Hmmm. I’m actually not still getting it, but don’t know why.

I totally understand that it’s a feature, but if customers saw that they’d leave. I mean, I’d leave, if I was a customer.

I’ll poke it some more and see if I can get it to come up again.

Thanks!

jena,
I believe what Paul was saying is that if you go to your shop at http://shop.mydomain.com instead of https://shop.mydomain.com, then you won’t see the warning. So that’s probably what happened.
